In Mora there is a long tradition of knife making. For over 400 years, Mora has created sharp knives for the rest of the world. The journey for Morakniv begins in 1891 when Frost-Erik Erson returned home to the village of Östnor in Mora after four years in North America. When he started his rolling stock factory, the first seed was sown for what would eventually become the Morakniv company and brand as we know it today.
In the beginning, Frost-Erik only produced knives for the factory's internal use, but production would soon grow. Morakniv as a concept was already well known in Sweden at the end of the 19th century, precisely because of the region's long tradition of manufacturing. The knives from Mora had then been distributed to users outside the country through farm dealers or through bartering. With the factory being founded, production can grow and more and more knives can be sent out both in Sweden and the world.
