Hennessy Hammock

Tom Hennessy is an industrial designer living on an island off the west coast of Canada. He runs a small family business with his wife Ann, his son James and long time friends, whose only mission is to continually improve the evolution of hammock design. They have been granted up to five patents nationally and internationally. Tom started sleeping in a WW2 army jungle hammock when he was 12 years old, fell in love with it and hasn’t slept in a tent since 1955.

It’s hard to believe, but Tom wasn’t even thinking about starting a hammock business. After seven years in design school, he decided to design the best hammock he could for himself. By the fall of 1998, after traveling for six years and making over 50 prototypes, Tom could not add or subtract any features which would further simplify or improve this design. Only then did it occur to him that his hammock might have some commercial value. Within a week, both MEC and REI Co-ops had decided to carry it.

Set up your Hennessy Hammock

Putting up a Hennessy hammock is a simple thing. All you really have to think about is that the hammock should be so tight that the angle corresponds to the angle between your thumb and forefinger, when you have your index finger straight ahead and your thumb straight up. When the hammock sits between two trees, hold your thumb straight up and forefinger straight ahead and point along the hammock from one tree to the other. The thumb should touch the hammock and forefinger as well, i.e., the hammock should be almost tense in a straight position.

Loops and knots for your Hennssy Hammock

It always comes with a pair of tree loops in the purchase of your Hennessy hammock. You do not need to know any special knots to attach the hammock to the loops, but simply pull the fastening rope through the loops several times. The friction on the rope created by the load keeps the hammock in place. It is also possible to use tree loops with predefined loops, which makes the fastening even easier. Then you tie a carabiner hook in the hammock and easily adjust the position of the hammock via the loops in the loop.

Hennessy snakeskin

You usually compare good inventions to the best thing that's happened since sliced bread. In Hennessy's case, it's true. Hennesssy snakeskin is exactly what it sounds like, a skin, or a sock for your hammock that can hold both hammock and tarp in place for transportation. Roll the hammock and tarp along the "ridgeline" of the chin, then just pull the sock over. It is especially useful to have the hammock and tarp in your snakeskin when you put up the hammock in the rain, as everything is protected by the sock. Abara put the hammock up when it is recessed in the sock and then pull it away and you have both hammock and tarp raised immediately and no rain will get to the hammock, where you will sleep.

Hennsy hammock is asymmetrical

Lying in a hamock the wrong way can give a bad night's sleep. The best way to sleep in a hammock is on the diagonal which gives a flat surface unlike the banana shape the body assumes if you lie straight. Hennessy hammock has embraced this fact and sewn her hammocks so that they do not have completely straight sides, but have a slightly asymmetrical shape to enhance the diagonal effect and provide a longer and wider lying surface

Take care of your Hennessy Hammock

It is very easy to maintain your Hennessy hammock. Only use a cloth and some lukewarm water to remove any dirt so that mold does not form while not in use.
